Novant Health Neurology – Doctors Circle (Building A) offers care for both lifelong neurologic concerns and acute neurologic conditions. Our providers will listen to you, understand how your nervous system is functioning and impacting your life, and use advanced diagnostic tools to get you answers and determine treatment options.
Conditions we treat include:
- Epilepsy and seizure disorders
- Headaches including migraines
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease; a condition involving progressive degeneration of nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain)
- Myasthenia gravis (a condition in which communication between nerves and muscles is lessened, resulting in weakness)
- Multiple sclerosis (MS; a condition in which the fatty tissue protecting nerves is harmed, making it harder for those nerves to conduct impulses from the brain)
- Parkinson’s disease ( a motor system disorder that affects muscle function)
- Alzheimer’s disease and other memory problems
Our services include:
- Consultations and physical exams
- Infusion therapy for multiple sclerosis, neuromuscular diseases and headaches
- Electromyography/nerve conduction studies (EMG; a recording of the electrical activity of a muscle)
- Electroencephalography (EEG; a recording of the electrical activity of part of the brain)
- Long-term video EEG monitoring (EEG recordings taken over days or weeks)
- Evoked potential studies (a test to detect problems with the spinal cord)
- Lumbar punctures (to diagnose certain spinal conditions)
- Skin, muscle and nerve biopsies
- Nerve ultrasounds
- Botulinum toxin (Botox) injections
- t-PA administration for acute stroke (“clot buster” drug)
- Care coordination with Novant Health New Hanover Rehabilitation Hospital and other rehabilitation providers
