Welcome your little one in a comfortable setting surrounded by experienced, expert, compassionate caregivers. Novant Health’s comprehensive maternity services include:
- Educational services, including maternity, parenting, breastfeeding and childbirth classes
- Lactation and breastfeeding services before, during and after your delivery:
- Daily bedside nursing support from certified lactation consultants during your hospital stay
- Ongoing, free breastfeeding and chestfeeding support resources like assessment, private appointments, classes, breast pumps, and feeding supplies and aids
- Care for high-risk pregnancy and delivery (such as gestational diabetes and preeclampsia)
- Labor/delivery support, including treatments for pain management and resources on what to expect with a C-section
- Emergency obstetrics services and dedicated maternity surgical suites
- Newborn services, including complete pediatric and surgical services, hearing screening and a newborn nursery
- Advanced infant security system
- Professional photography of your newborn that you can purchase to easily share and create birth announcements, gifts and keepsakes
- Doula verification
- Bereavement support

The maternity care you deserve
We offer dedicated parking for laboring mothers within the main parking deck. Park there and enter the hospital. Wheelchairs are available if needed and security can assist you. Take the elevators to the eighth floor and follow signs to labor and delivery.
Located on the eighth floor of the hospital, amenities include:
- Spacious maternity suites with home comforts like TV, private bathroom with handheld showerhead and jacuzzi tub, refrigerator and rockers
- Pain management options for delivery, including laughing gas and epidurals
- Rooming-in: your baby stays in the maternity suite with you to help prepare family for the transition home
- Kangaroo care (skin-to-skin experience)
- Daily quiet hours when all visitors are asked to leave the maternity suite so mom and baby can rest and bond without interruption
- Neonatal nurse practitioners on-site 24/7
- Your established certified nurse midwife can assist onsite throughout your labor and delivery, or you may include your personal doula. (Doulas should register with Novant Health.)
- Birthing balls and peanut balls
After delivery, you and your baby will be transferred to a spacious mother-baby suite to enhance your bonding experience. These rooms include:
- Comfortable sofa bed for your partner
- Refrigerator
- Large bathroom with showers
- TV
In addition to daily nursing support during your hospital stay, you can access free chestfeeding services and resources, such as on-demand virtual visits, while you’re expecting and after delivery through Novant Health Breastfeeding.
Level IV NICU in Charlotte
Presbyterian Medical Center provides an advanced neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) with a level IV nursery — the highest level of medical care for newborns and premature infants available.
The nursery, located in Novant Health Hemby Children's Hospital, is staffed 24/7 by a team of expert neonatologists, nurse practitioners and registered nurses.
Our nursery also features sophisticated monitoring equipment, a respiratory lab and dedicated support services, including a pharmacist and child life specialist.
