NHRMC Rural Family Medicine Training Track
The Novant Health NHRMC Rural Family Medicine Training Track provides excellent medical education to train physicians for the specialized demands of working in a rural setting. Join our program to contribute to helping transform rural healthcare for some of our most vulnerable communities.
Rural Family Medicine Training
Training Locations
- Black River Health Services (BRHS) Clinic. Located in Burgaw, NC, the clinic is adjacent to Pender Medical Center, the only hospital in Pender County.
- Burgaw is just 26.4 miles north of the main training site at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Curriculum & Experience
- Access to Full-Scope Family Medicine Curriculum. Comprehensive training in providing rural inpatient and outpatient care.
- Community Connections. Hands-on training allows residents to form deep connections within their communities while allowing for diverse learning opportunities.
- Increasing Access to Care. Ensuring much-needed services for underserved patients in our region.
Unique Opportunities
- Serving Our Spanish-Speaking Population. The Black River Health Services clinic serves a large population of Spanish-speaking patients.
- Collaboration With Manos Unidos. Work closely with Manos Unidos, a non-profit whose mission is to provide services to improve the well-being of migrant and seasonal farm workers and their families through health outreach, education and resource connection.
