Teaching and children are two of my biggest loves. In pediatrics, I get to teach parents how to care for their children, and I teach children how to care for themselves. The goal for everyone is the same: to help that child grow into a healthy adult. I am also fortunate to teach medical students, residents and physician assistant students in the clinic so one day they can deliver remarkable care to their own patients.

My daughter has a mild intellectual disability. Some providers will just skip over her once they learn that and talk to me, but I want her to be involved in her own care. I'm trying to build as much independence as possible for her. I appreciate that Dr. Annie recognizes and treats my daughter like her actual age, while also adjusting any language or descriptions needed to help her understand. She takes the time to see my daughter and play to her strengths. It's very empowering for my daughter.
