Blood conservation

We know that patients sometimes prefer not to receive blood transfusions during surgeries or other procedures, whether because of religious beliefs or concern about blood-borne illnesses. We use the most advanced techniques to conserve and use your own blood whenever possible.

It’s always a good time to donate blood

It's always a good time to donate blood, not just during disasters and emergencies. When blood supplies reach critical levels, many surgeries, treatments and procedures have to be postponed. That's why donating blood year-round is important.

Every pint of whole blood you donate is separated into three components; plasma, red cells and platelets. Fresh plasma is used to treat accident victims, patients with bleeding disorders and burn victims. Platelets are used to treat cancer patients and patients who have had bone marrow transplants. Red cells are used to treat patients who have lost blood because of trauma or surgery. It also is used to treat patients with anemia.

Please contact your local American Red Cross to give the gift of life and help ensure we always have a ready supply of whole blood and blood components.
