What is Lymphoma cancer?
One of the most common types of cancers, lymphomas account for about 6% of all cancers. Lymphomas are cancers that affect blood cells called lymphocytes, which protect your body from infections and control inflammation. Lymphocytes can build in your bloodstream, bone marrow and organs but most commonly affect the lymph nodes located throughout your body. There are two primary kinds of Lymphoma:
- Hodgkin lymphoma, also called Hodgkin disease
- Non-Hodgkin lymphoma
There are dozens of subtypes of lymphoma, so having a physician who specializes in this cancer type can lead to better care for you. Knowing what type of lymphoma cancer you have is important to ensure you receive the best results for your condition. Your treatment plan may include chemotherapy, radiation therapy, cellular immunotherapy and stem cell transplantation.

Most cases of cancer occur by chance. However, sometimes cancer can be hereditary, which means that it runs in the family. Genetic counseling and genetic testing can help determine if you or your family members are at an increased risk to develop certain types of cancer. Understanding your hereditary risks can help prevent cancer, detect it early, or impact treatment decisions for an existing cancer. Our genetic counselors can talk with you about your family history of cancer and genetic testing options.
