Making Your Appointment
The need for a referral to make an appointment for nutrition counseling varies, based on the purpose of your appointment.

Specialized Nutrition
A referral to a registered dietitian is needed from your primary care provider if you have any of these medical conditions or needs:
Nutrition And Health Specialists

The primary care provider may be a physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner. They'll typically handle routine checkups, lab tests and prescriptions. Your primary care provider may also refer you to a registered dietitian.

At Novant Health, our registered dietitians are available to work with you one-on-one to create a flexible personalized diet that will help you reach your health and other goals. This includes working with children, caregivers, pregnant women and adults who need or want to lower their blood sugar levels.

Our certified athletic trainers are here to support and motivate you. Whether you need a personal weight loss trainer or want to establish an exercise routine that fits your schedule, we'll create a personalized program tailored to your needs.

Nutrition is a key aspect of all care. It’s the reason why registered dietitians are embedded throughout Novant Health. Your primary care provider can guide you to a dietitian that specializes in the kind of nutritional therapy that meets your needs. We have physician assistants, registered dietitians, and other providers that support nutrition counseling and specialize in the following areas: weight loss services, cardiovascular health, pediatrics and adolescent medicine, rehabilitation, and cancer care.

Weight loss services
If you or your primary care provider feels you need more comprehensive help with weight management, you can schedule an appointment at a Novant Health weight loss clinic.
Our care teams at these clinics use nutrition counseling, fitness training and cognitive behavioral therapy to help you recognize and address obstacles that may have held you back in the past. We can help you determine what costs your health plan will cover, and coordinate with your primary care provider, specialist or surgeon to ensure you get the help you need whether your goal is to qualify for surgery or improve or reverse a medical condition.
Why choose Novant Health?
