I really appreciate Canio Marcantonio because I have really been struggling with my experience from the start my journey with the Pilonidal surgery. Although the actual surgery was performed well I felt really dismissed and not given all the information I think I should have by my first provider Dr. Reyes. My previous experience with him (both consultation and post surgery) felt like my dignity was not taken into consideration aka asking to partially undress and get on a table in front of the doctor and nurse which was awkward. And then being told I was doing it wrong, especially after surgery and it was hard for me to get on the table. It was embarrassing. I delayed being seen again due to this experience and extended my healing time because I was told it was normal and kinda dismissed when my stitches popped. And honestly I didn’t want to see Dr. Reyes again. I was extremely nervous after scheduling this appointment to be treated the same but my experience with Canio was the opposite. He took time to make me feel comfortable, maintained my dignity by leaving the room while I got my situated and giving me a drape to cover with. He made sure I knew that he understood how vulnerable this was and walked through every step. He took time to answer questions and understand my anxiety around this process. I know I told them at the time but it was really nice and I am no longer in constant pain and on the way to healing. I know I should have said something earlier but honestly I am now processing the whole experience and the stark contrast allowed me to feel like I could share.
